Welcome
Curlews holiday cottage situation in the heart of the picturesque fishing town of Looe, south Cornwall.
Beautiful four-star, Visit England-accredited period property, situated in the heart of Looe, a stone's throw from the beach, harbour and all of the town's quaint shops, pubs and restaurants.
This large three-storey stone cottage is believed to have been originally built in the 16th century, with the top floor added at a later date. It is set back in a quiet courtyard in what was the old medieval market square, next to the site of the old town well. Curlews has recently been the subject of a major refurbishment, including a complete ground floor renovation with luxury fitted kitchen and also a completely re-fitted luxury shower room. Great care and attention has been paid to the interior design, with the property decorated in a bright, fun and contemporary nautical theme throughout. Packed with interesting objects and pictures, guests will instantly feel that they are on holiday by the sea and being very well equipped, you will find everything you need for a wonderful and relaxing break.
The property offers three large bedrooms (two double bedrooms and a large twin room with full-sized single beds), a large luxury shower room and an additional cloakroom. The open-plan living area is equipped with a luxury fitted kitchen and integrated appliances, state-of-the-art Optimyst real flame-effect electric stove, comfortable sofas and a dining table with chairs to seat six. There is full central heating throughout and constant hot water. Curlews is also equipped with BT infinity ultra-fast speed Wi-Fi, a large flat screen multi-media TV with Amazon Prime, featuring films, music, games and much more, all included in the cost.
The medieval town of Looe is steeped in history, being famous for its smuggling heritage. You can see the exit of a real smuggling tunnel in the building across the square from Curlews! Legend even has it that Jesus took a trip a by boat to Looe Island with his father Joseph as part of a pilgrimage (this was featured in an episode of 'Time Team'). Find out about this and Looe's fascinating history in the town's museum (opposite Curlews).
Looe is perfectly located for exploring the many delights of both Cornwall and Devon. It is close to Plymouth, so easy to reach by car and by train from London: a direct link runs from Paddington to Liskeard, much of which follows the stunning coastline. A branch line from Liskeard takes you on a very pretty journey alongside the Looe river, directly into the town, meaning that a car is not actually necessary to enjoy a break at Curlews. The town itself is very quaint with its old narrow streets and historic architecture, a lovely sandy beach and beautiful harbour and river. It nestles amongst some of the country's finest landscapes, being slap bang in the middle of the stunning South West Coastal Path.
A summer holiday in Looe is a delight, but this part of the country is truly beautiful any time of the year. In fact, a winter break allows you to enjoy the Cornish natural beauty, peace and tranquillity without all the hustle and bustle of the summer months. It is also cheaper!
